El Palmeral Park

El Palmeral Park

El Palmeral Park (Elx, Alicante) – covering 72,000 sq. meters, and containing more than 200,000 trees, this is the largest palm grove in Europe. Although when contemplated from a distance it may appear to be a veritable forest, it is actually a plantation with an agriculture purpose, and thus its plots or groupings, are referred to as groves. Each of the groves is flanked by rows of palm trees, in such a way that, when viewed from the air, they form a grid pattern. The origins of the Palm Grove date back to the X century, when the Arabs relocated the city to its current site. The Moorish cultivation methods employed have survived to the present day.

Take a delightful early morning stroll along its footpaths lined with colourful flowerbeds, ponds and fountains. Or around mid-day take advantage of the picnic areas before splashing about in the boating lake or tackling the BMX cycle track! In the evenings you can wander down to the summerhouse where regular family entertainment, including marionettes and a children’s theatre, is held all summer.
